My name is Yao Liu, and I'm currently a
full-time student studying in the Schulich
School of Engineering at the
University of Calgary. Going into
architecture for my Master's degree
after civil engineering is my academic
plan at the moment. The purpose of this
website is mainly to establish a visual
communication with other art fanatics as
well as to attract potential clients
with various demands. I've experimented
with different forms of art in the past
years, ranging from Chinese & oil
paintings, gouache, and oil pastel to
graphic & Flash designs and website
constructions.
Starting taking Chinese painting lessons
when I was six in China, I've now
handled many different techniques and
developed my unique style. The
combination of traditional and
contemporary techniques has resulted the
strength within brush movements,
interactions between ink and colours,
and the magnificence of the overall
effect. Up to date, there have been more
than 40 pieces sold and donated on
various occasions. Right now I'm a
member of the Calgary Multi-Vision
Artists Society, a group composed with a
population between 30 and 40 members.
My interests of web design first started
when I was taking website construction
as an option course in grade 8.
Impressed by the abilities to inform and
connect people around the world, I
decided to further the exploration on my
own. My first attempt at building a full
site was in 2004, and I've come a long
way in my learning journey to the
present day. Now I'm currently
responsible for designing, constructing,
maintaining, and tracking three websites
made for different purposes. As a
result, such experience has really
allowed me to think outside the box and
improve problem-solving skills. Because
of the integration of graphic design
within website development, I've also
experienced extensive graphic design
process; I was fortunate enough to have
my designs on the Calgary YellowPages
for the past couple of years, as well as
poster designs and a T-shirt design for
various social activities.
Planning on going to the Tsinghua
University as a participant of the
International Exchange program offered
by the University of Calgary during the
2010/2011 academic year, I'm excited to
further my studies in my major as well
as receiving more Chinese painting
training in Beijing. I'm looking forward
to the upcoming years as the I'm about
to go through abundant opportunities in
different aspects of my life.
